APEX Accelerator vs. SBA vs. SBDC: What's the Difference?

Choose the appropriate assistance resource for procurement, business planning, certification, or mentoring questions.

Related resources, different roles

APEX focuses on government-contracting assistance. SBA is a federal agency with business-support and contracting-program responsibilities. SBDCs provide business counseling and training through a partner network. Their services can complement one another but are not interchangeable.

Match the question to the resource

  • Registration, solicitation review, and procurement research: ask the serving APEX center about available assistance.
  • SBA program certification and official eligibility rules: use current SBA program guidance and application channels.
  • Business planning, financial preparation, and general growth: investigate SBDC services.
  • Informal business mentoring: review SBA's official mentoring referrals, including SCORE where suitable.

Confirm local delivery

Service areas, eligibility, appointments, and training fees can vary. Use official referral pages and ask the actual provider about its scope rather than assuming every office offers the same support.

Keep responsibilities clear

Counseling does not transfer responsibility for registrations, representations, proposals, or contract performance. A center may help you understand an issue without acting as legal counsel or the contracting officer.

Prepare a focused question and coordinate advice into one action list. Desra's relationship-based Solution Network is separate from these assistance programs and is not a government certification authority.
