Finding Opportunities

How to Become a Vendor for Your State Government

Find the state's official purchasing office and distinguish vendor registration, bid participation, and payment onboarding.

Each state has its own process

State procurement is separate from federal SAM registration. The state's purchasing office may use a central portal, while agencies or institutions can have additional procedures. Registration does not place your company on a state contract automatically.

Build the registration plan

  1. 01Start with the official state purchasing website.
  2. 02Follow its current vendor-portal links and review eligibility or intake requirements.
  3. 03Prepare the business records and category codes requested.
  4. 04Distinguish bid-platform enrollment from tax and payment setup.
  5. 05Configure notifications and record status, contacts, and review dates.

Florida businesses can begin with Department of Management Services state purchasing resources and follow current MyFloridaMarketPlace instructions. Do not assume another state's workflow uses the same systems or codes.

Understand purchasing routes

Open bids, term contracts, quotes, and other permitted methods may be relevant. A vendor account does not make you an awarded supplier on every contract vehicle.

Start where demand exists

Research notices and buying history before registering everywhere. Check the actual solicitation's submission, insurance, license, and performance requirements. Keep sensitive account and tax information in official systems and use the tracker below only for non-sensitive status information.

Official sources

Check current instructions and requirements directly with the relevant agency.
