How to Bid on Government Contracts Without a GSA Schedule
Explore open-market, subcontract, and state or local routes while checking each opportunity's required vehicle.
A schedule is not a universal prerequisite
A GSA Schedule is one federal purchasing route. Many government purchases use other methods. Whether your business needs a specific vehicle depends on the particular solicitation or order.
Identify accessible opportunities
- 01Review SAM notices for competitions not restricted to vehicles you lack.
- 02Research subcontracting with relevant primes.
- 03Review state, local, and education procurement sites.
- 04Investigate other contract routes only where demand and fit justify them.
- 05Check eligibility before preparing a response.
Do not ignore restrictions
An order limited to a particular vehicle's holders is not automatically open to an otherwise qualified company. Partnering may be possible, but the actual procurement and subcontract rules determine the route.
Decide whether a vehicle is worth pursuing
Evaluate buyer demand, application and maintenance effort, pricing obligations, and competition. A vehicle award does not guarantee orders. Do not spend heavily because someone describes a schedule as required for all government sales.
Start with a route your company can access and perform responsibly. Match administrative investment to evidence of purchasing demand rather than collecting vehicles without a strategy.
